What is LED Light Therapy?

LED Light Therapy uses light-emitting diodes to expose the skin to selected wavelengths of visible or near-infrared light.

Different settings may be chosen according to the intended treatment protocol and your skin. LED does not use ultraviolet light, needles or abrasive exfoliation.

At Skin Techniques, it can be booked as an individual treatment or added to selected facials, including Dermalogica Pro 60 and the Hydra-Diamond Glass Facial.

What it helps

What can LED Light Therapy help with?

Depending on the protocol selected, it may support treatment plans for:

  • Skin prone to occasional breakouts
  • Red or reactive-looking skin
  • Early signs of ageing
  • Fine lines
  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Skin recovery following selected cosmetic treatments
  • General skin maintenance

LED is not a substitute for medical treatment. Persistent acne, psoriasis or other diagnosed skin conditions should be managed with an appropriate healthcare professional.

How it works

How does LED Light Therapy work?

The selected LED setting delivers a specific wavelength of light to the skin. Different wavelengths interact with the skin at different depths and are chosen according to the intended treatment protocol.

You will rest beneath the LED equipment for a controlled period while wearing any eye protection recommended for the system.

Results depend on the wavelength, treatment time, frequency of appointments and the concern being addressed.

Our approach

Our personalised approach to facials rejuvenation

Not all facials and skin rejuvenation treatments work in the same way. Some focus on cleansing and exfoliation, while others use hydration, resurfacing, LED light, cooling or carefully selected electrical technology.

You may come to us interested in a particular facial, but another treatment could be better suited to your skin, sensitivity and the changes you would like to see.

At Skin Techniques, we assess your skin before recommending a treatment. We consider your current skincare, previous treatments, upcoming events and any sensitivity before creating your plan. If you are unsure what to book, we can begin with a skin analysis and recommend an appropriate facial for you.

Your questions

LED Light Therapy FAQs

Does LED Light Therapy use UV light?

No. Professional LED skin treatments use selected visible or near-infrared wavelengths rather than ultraviolet light.

How many LED treatments will I need?

This depends on why LED has been recommended. It can be used once alongside another facial or as a course within a personalised skin plan.

Is LED Light Therapy painful?

LED is non-invasive and generally comfortable. It does not involve needles, abrasive exfoliation or the controlled injury created by treatments such as microneedling.

Is LED Light Therapy suitable for everyone?

Not always. Tell us about medical conditions, light sensitivity and any medications or products that make you photosensitive before treatment.
