TREATMENT INFO
Smoker’s lines are the fine vertical creases around the lips, which can develop whether or not you’ve ever smoked. Where repeated muscle movement contributes, anti-wrinkle treatment aims to soften movement-related lines. Lines visible at rest may also benefit from an approach focused on skin quality. Please note: All anti-wrinkle and muscle-relaxing treatment appointments are subject to a consultation with our independent nurse prescriber to assess suitability and create a personalised plan with your safety and goals in mind.

Smoker’s lines are fine vertical creases around the lips, most commonly above the upper lip. Despite the name, they can develop whether or not you’ve ever smoked.
Repeated lip movement, skin ageing, sun exposure and changes in skin support can all contribute. These fine lines and wrinkles may initially appear when you purse your lips and can become visible at rest over time.
What it helps
Part of our anti-wrinkle treatments, this treatment can soften lines that become more noticeable when pursing the lips. It may have less effect on deeper creases that remain visible when your mouth is relaxed.
Where skin quality or changes in volume are more relevant, we’ll explain other approaches and whether a combined plan may be appropriate.

How it works
Muscle-relaxing treatment reduces selected activity around the mouth that contributes to repeated folding of the skin. This may soften movement-related creases.
It does not restore lost skin support or directly address every cause of lines around the lips. Your plan will reflect the balance between muscle movement, skin quality and facial structure.
Our approach
We consider your facial movement, skin and surrounding features to understand what’s contributing to your concern. Your treatment plan is tailored to your anatomy, priorities and goals, with clear advice about the changes treatment may achieve.
Your consultation will be with our in-house independent nurse prescriber, Helen Lada, who will review your medical history, assess suitability and explain your options. Treatment is only carried out where clinically appropriate.
Your questions
The name can be misleading. Repeated lip movement, sun exposure, skin ageing and individual anatomy can all contribute to these fine lines and wrinkles, whether or not you have smoked.
No. Smoker’s lines treatment focuses on vertical creases around the lips. A lip flip aims to make more of the upper lip visible by changing how it moves. The treatment goals differ, even though both involve muscles around the mouth.
That depends on what is causing the lines. Where skin quality is a significant factor, options within our skin booster treatments may be discussed. If changes in volume or support contribute, we can assess whether dermal fillers have a role in your plan. Lip filler may be discussed where lip volume or definition is also a concern.
Complete removal cannot be guaranteed. The aim is an appropriate degree of softening while considering lip function. Deeper lines visible at rest may remain after treatment. Your anti-wrinkle consultation will cover the likely outcome and whether a different approach is needed.
