What are anti-wrinkle treatments?

Anti-wrinkle treatments are commonly considered by people who are concerned about lines that become more noticeable with facial expressions. These are sometimes called dynamic lines and can develop through repeated movements such as frowning, smiling or raising the eyebrows.

At Skin Techniques, every client is assessed individually. We consider your facial anatomy, natural expressions, medical history and what you would like to address before discussing suitable options.

You do not need to choose a formulation or decide how many areas you need before visiting us. If treatment is clinically appropriate, your prescriber will create an individual plan intended to retain natural movement and avoid an overtreated appearance.

What areas can we assess?

We offer consultations for a range of upper-face, lower-face, lip, jawline and neck concerns. Treating a particular area will depend on your anatomy, medical history and the outcome of your prescriber assessment.

Forehead - We can assess horizontal forehead lines that become more noticeable when raising the eyebrows.

Frown lines - These are the vertical lines that can appear between the eyebrows, particularly when frowning or concentrating.

Crow’s feet - Crow’s feet are the expression lines that appear around the outer corners of the eyes when smiling or squinting.

Lower face - Your consultation can include concerns such as bunny lines, chin dimpling and the downward pull of the mouth corners, sometimes referred to as the DAO area.

Lips and mouth - We can assess lines around the mouth and discuss concerns relating to lip movement and shape. A “lip flip” may be discussed, but it will only be considered where clinically appropriate.

Masseter - We can assess enlarged or overactive masseter muscles associated with a wider-looking jawline, jaw clenching or teeth grinding (Bruxism), before discussing whether treatment or referral to a dental professional is appropriate.

Neck and Jawline - We can assess visible neck bands and muscular movement that may affect the appearance of the lower face, jawline or neck. This includes concerns sometimes associated with a Nefertiti-style neck assessment.

Some people want advice about one specific area, while others have several related concerns. Your plan may therefore focus on one area or take a more balanced approach across different parts of the face.

What it helps with

What can anti-wrinkle and muscle-relaxing treatments help with?

Following a face-to-face consultation and prescriber assessment, treatment may be considered for concerns caused or influenced by repeated facial muscle movement. These can include:

Horizontal forehead lines

Frown lines between the eyebrows

Crow’s feet around the eyes

Bunny lines across the nose

Dimpling or an uneven-looking chin

Downturned mouth corners

Lines around the lips

Concerns relating to lip movement or a lip flip

A wider-looking or square jawline associated with the masseter muscles

Visible neck bands and downward pull around the jawline

Jaw clenching or teeth grinding, where clinically appropriate

Not every concern—or every area—will be suitable for prescription treatment. Lines that remain visible when the face is resting may be influenced by skin quality, volume changes or other factors, so we may recommend skincare, microneedling, skin boosters or another approach instead.

How it works

What happens at your appointment?

Before any prescription treatment can take place, you will have a consultation with our independent nurse prescriber, where we will:

  • Discuss the areas that concern you
  • Review your health, medications and relevant medical history
  • Assess your facial anatomy and muscle movement
  • Explain potentially suitable options and alternatives
  • Discuss possible benefits, limitations and risks
  • Answer your questions without placing you under pressure

A prescription will only be issued if the prescriber decides that treatment is safe and appropriate. You can then arrange your treatment appointment with Shelly.

Where appropriate, we may also arrange a review approximately two weeks afterwards. This allows us to assess your response and provide any necessary clinical advice.

Common questions

Anti-wrinkle FAQs

Do I need a consultation before anti-wrinkle treatment?

Yes. All prescription treatment requires a prior face-to-face assessment with our independent nurse prescriber. Your medical history and clinical suitability will be reviewed before any prescription is considered.

Why is a consultation required before anti-wrinkle treatment?

Some anti-wrinkle options are prescription-only treatments. A face-to-face consultation allows our independent nurse prescriber to review your medical history, assess your facial anatomy and decide whether treatment is safe and clinically appropriate. Attending a consultation does not guarantee that a prescription or treatment will be provided.

Which areas can be discussed during my consultation?

We can assess forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, chin dimpling, downturned mouth corners, lip lines, visible neck bands and certain jawline or neck concerns. Not every area will be appropriate for every client.

Do you use Botox?

Botox® is the brand name of one particular prescription-only medicine, although the name is often used informally when referring to different botulinum toxin products. We do not ask clients to choose a prescription product before assessment. If treatment is appropriate, the prescriber will explain the proposed product, its licensed use, relevant risks and alternative options before you provide consent.

How many treatment areas will I need?

That cannot be determined reliably without assessing your facial anatomy and movement. Some clients are concerned about one area, while others may benefit from discussing several connected areas. We will only recommend what is clinically appropriate.

Can I choose which prescription treatment is used?

You are welcome to discuss your preferences and ask questions, but the final choice must be clinically appropriate and agreed with the prescriber. We will explain the available options, limitations and relevant risks during your consultation.

How long do the effects of anti-wrinkle treatment last?

Treatment responses and duration vary between individuals, so a particular result or timeframe cannot be guaranteed. Your prescriber will explain realistic expectations based on the proposed treatment and your personal circumstances.
