What are semi-permanent brows?

Semi-permanent brows is a broad term for cosmetic tattooing techniques used to add pigment and definition to the brow area.

Your brows are mapped and designed around your facial proportions, existing brow hair, natural colouring and preferred level of definition. Pigment is then implanted into the skin using a specialist cosmetic tattooing technique.

At Skin Techniques, our specialist brow treatment is Hyper Realism Brows, which uses carefully positioned machine hairstrokes to recreate the appearance and flow of natural brow hairs.

How it works

How do semi-permanent brows work?

Your appointment begins with consultation, brow mapping and colour selection. The proposed shape is shown to you before any pigment is implanted.

A specialist cosmetic tattooing device is used to place pigment into the skin according to the chosen brow technique. Immediately afterwards, the brows will appear stronger and darker than the healed result.

The colour softens as the skin heals. A later perfecting appointment may be used to assess pigment retention and make suitable refinements.

Our approach

Our personalised approach to semi-permanent make-up

Semi-permanent make-up should complement your features rather than follow one fixed shape, colour or trend. At Skin Techniques, Jess considers your natural colouring, facial proportions, existing hair or lip tone and how defined or subtle you would like the finished result to appear.

Our semi-permanent make-up treatments include brow and lip options, with every design agreed before pigment is implanted.

If you already have pigment in your brows or lips, please tell us before booking. Existing pigment can affect the colour, shape and technique available, and laser removal may sometimes be recommended before a new treatment.

Your questions

Semi-Permanent Brows FAQs

How long do semi-permanent eyebrows last?

Pigment fades gradually, but longevity varies according to skin type, pigment, sun exposure, skincare and lifestyle. A maintenance colour boost may be recommended.

Are semi-permanent brows the same as microblading?

Semi-permanent brows is a broader term covering different cosmetic tattooing techniques. Skin Techniques’ Hyper Realism Brows use machine-created hairstrokes rather than traditional microblading.

Will my semi-permanent brows look very dark initially?

Yes, the pigment normally appears darker and stronger immediately after treatment. It softens as the brows heal and should not be judged by the first few days.

Can you work over old eyebrow tattooing?

Sometimes, but existing pigment must be assessed first. If it is too dark, saturated or unsuitable in shape, laser eyebrow tattoo removal may be recommended.
