TREATMENT INFO
If the lines below your mouth have become more pronounced, we’ll assess what is contributing to them. Filler may help soften the creases and surrounding shadows while keeping your lower face in proportion.

Learn more
Marionette lines are the lines or folds that run downwards from the corners of your mouth towards your chin. You might describe them as “lines below my mouth”, “mouth-to-chin lines” or notice that the corners of your mouth appear more downturned. A downturned mouth can have other causes too, so we’ll assess what you’re noticing rather than assuming it is all due to these folds.
These lines can become more noticeable as facial volume, skin and the surrounding tissues change. Marionette line filler may help soften the creases or shadows where additional support is appropriate. At Skin Techniques, we assess your lower face before recommending an approach within our wider range of dermal filler treatments.
What it helps
Treatment may help soften mouth-to-chin creases or reduce a hollow-looking shadow beside the corners of the mouth. The aim is to improve the contour where additional support is appropriate, while keeping the lower face in proportion.
Skin laxity, changes in volume and muscle movement can all influence this area. We may assess whether chin filler or jawline filler is relevant. If your concern also involves heavier jowls, we’ll explain which approach may be most suitable.
Marionette folds and downturned mouth corners can appear together, but they may have different causes. Where muscle activity pulls the corners of the mouth downwards, downturned mouth corners treatment may be considered. We’ll assess whether your concern relates to muscle movement, changes in facial support or a combination of both.

How it works
Filler is placed beneath the skin to add volume or support around the crease. Where facial volume loss contributes to the appearance, treatment may focus on the line itself or nearby areas. We’ll explain the proposed placement and the improvement you can reasonably expect.
Filler cannot remove excess skin, and a deeper fold may still be visible after treatment. The aim is to soften the crease and surrounding shadow without adding unnecessary fullness. We assess the result once initial swelling has reduced.
Our approach
At Skin Techniques, we specialise in a personalised, full-face approach to dermal fillers. You might come to us with a particular treatment in mind, but the area you notice isn’t always the only place we need to consider.
Changes in volume, skin quality and the support around your features can all contribute to the same concern. Sometimes treating one area is appropriate; sometimes a combination of treatments may be more helpful.
We take time to understand what is causing your concern and how your features work together before recommending a treatment plan. You don’t need to know exactly what to book—we’ll explain the options and help you decide on an approach that suits your face and what you’d like to achieve.
Your questions
Lines that extend from the corners of your mouth down towards your chin are commonly called marionette lines. You may notice a crease, a shadow beside the mouth or a more downturned appearance. They are different from nasolabial folds, which run from the sides of the nose to the mouth corners. You don’t need to know the name before visiting us—simply show us the area you’d like to discuss.
Filler may soften the creases, but complete removal isn’t always possible or appropriate. Your skin, facial volume and surrounding support all affect the result. We’ll discuss a realistic degree of improvement and plan the amount around your facial proportions.
It may improve the appearance of support around the mouth in some cases. However, it won’t reliably change a downturned mouth caused by muscle activity. We’ll assess the cause before recommending filler or discussing another approach.
Marionette lines run downwards from the mouth corners towards the chin. Nasolabial folds run from the sides of the nose towards the mouth corners. Although both are around the mouth, they affect different areas and may need different treatment plans.
