What are Ombré Lips?

Ombré Lips is an advanced semi-permanent make-up treatment designed to create a softly graduated lip-colour effect.

Pigment is carefully placed to provide greater definition around the natural lip border before being blended towards the centre. This creates a gradual transition rather than one flat block of colour.

The finished effect can be adjusted according to your natural colouring and preferred level of definition. It is generally more polished and make-up-inspired than traditional Lip Blush, while still being designed around your natural lip shape.

Ombré Lips does not add physical volume or provide the structural change associated with dermal filler.

What it helps

What can Ombré Lips help with?

Ombré Lips may be considered for:

  • A natural lip border lacking visible definition
  • Pale or faded-looking lips
  • Uneven-looking lip colour
  • Mild visual asymmetry within the natural lip shape
  • Clients wanting a graduated rather than even colour effect
  • Creating a more polished, make-up-inspired finish
  • Reducing reliance on daily lip liner and lipstick
  • Creating the appearance of greater definition without adding volume

Pigment can enhance the natural lip border but cannot be used to extend substantially beyond the lip tissue.

How it works

How do Ombré Lips work?

Your appointment begins with a consultation, assessment of your natural lips and selection of a pigment suited to your colouring and preferred finish.

The natural lip border is mapped before pigment is implanted using a specialist cosmetic tattooing device. More definition is created around the border before the colour is softly blended towards the centre of the lips.

Immediately after treatment, the colour will appear stronger and more vibrant than the intended healed result. Swelling is also expected. As the lips heal, the pigment softens and the graduated effect becomes more apparent.

A complimentary perfecting appointment takes place approximately eight weeks later. This allows Jess to assess the healed pigment, refine the border and improve any areas where the colour has healed lighter or less evenly.

Our approach

Our personalised approach to semi-permanent make-up

Semi-permanent make-up should complement your features rather than follow one fixed colour, shape or trend.

At Skin Techniques, Jess considers your natural lip colour, shape, facial features and preferred level of definition before creating your treatment plan. The proposed colour and outline are discussed with you before pigment is implanted.

Our other semi-permanent make-up treatments include Lip Blush, for a softer wash of natural-looking colour, and HD Lips, which focuses on definition, symmetry and an even wash of colour.

If you already have pigment in your lips, please tell us before booking. Previous cosmetic tattooing can affect the colour, technique and result available, and laser removal may sometimes need to be considered first.

Your questions

Ombré Lips FAQs

What is the difference between Ombré Lips and Lip Blush?

Traditional Lip Blush is intended to create a soft, relatively even wash of colour. Ombré Lips creates greater definition around the natural border before the pigment is blended more softly towards the centre.

Ombré Lips therefore produces a more graduated and make-up-inspired effect.

What is the difference between Ombré Lips and HD Lips?

Both treatments can enhance colour and definition. HD Lips focuses on creating a defined border, improved visual symmetry and an even wash of colour.

Ombré Lips deliberately creates a gradient, with stronger definition around the border and softer colour towards the centre. We will help you choose the most appropriate finish during your consultation.

Do Ombré Lips make your lips look fuller?

Ombré Lips do not physically increase lip size or add volume. The defined border and graduated colour may create the visual impression of clearer, more dimensional lips, but the treatment cannot reproduce the effect of lip filler.

What happens while Ombré Lips heal?

The lips will normally appear swollen and significantly stronger in colour immediately after treatment. Dryness, flaking and temporary changes in colour are expected during healing.

The pigment can appear lighter at certain stages before settling. Avoid judging the final result until the lips have fully healed and the colour has stabilised.
