At Skin Techniques, our service is primarily intended for clients who want to fade or remove previous semi-permanent makeup, particularly old eyebrow tattoos. We can also assess selected unwanted body tattoos.
People consider laser removal for many reasons. Previous brow pigment may have changed colour, faded unevenly, become too prominent or no longer suit the desired shape. In other cases, pigment may need to be faded before a new semi-permanent makeup treatment can be planned.
Complete removal cannot be guaranteed. The response will depend on the type, colour, depth and amount of pigment present, as well as your skin and previous treatments.
How it works
How does laser tattoo removal work?
Laser tattoo removal uses controlled pulses of light to target pigment within the skin. The laser energy breaks some of the pigment into smaller particles, which the body can gradually process following treatment.
Only part of the pigment is targeted during each appointment, which is why a course of treatments is usually required. Time must also be allowed between appointments for the skin to recover and the fading process to develop.
Semi-permanent makeup pigments can contain several colours and ingredients, so their response may be less predictable than standard black tattoo ink. A consultation and patch test are therefore important before a full treatment plan is recommended.

Can laser remove an eyebrow tattoo?
Laser treatment may fade or remove certain eyebrow tattoo pigments. The result depends on the pigment’s colour, depth, density and composition. A consultation and patch test are required before a full treatment plan can be recommended.
Can microblading be removed with laser?
Previous microblading may be suitable for laser fading, but pigments can respond differently. Some colours may become more noticeable or change following initial treatment, which is why Jess must assess and patch test the area first.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients require multiple appointments, but an exact number cannot be guaranteed. Jess will assess the pigment and review its response as your treatment progresses. It is not possible to provide an exact number without assessing the pigment and observing how it responds.
Older or lighter pigment may behave differently from recently applied or heavily saturated colour. Semi-permanent makeup can also contain blended pigments that change as individual colours respond.
Jess will review the progress between appointments and advise whether further treatment is appropriate. No responsible practitioner can guarantee complete removal or a fixed number of sessions.
What happens at your laser removal appointment?
Before treatment begins, Jess will assess the tattoo or previous permanent makeup and ask about its history where known. We'll consider:
- The treatment area
- The colour and density of the pigment
- How long the pigment has been present
- Whether it has previously been treated or covered
- Your skin and relevant medical history
- Whether your goal is fading, removal or future correction
A patch test will be performed before proceeding with a full treatment. This helps Jess observe how the pigment and your skin respond to the laser. If treatment is suitable, we'll explain the proposed plan, possible side effects and aftercare. Because pigment response varies, the plan may need to be adjusted as treatment progresses.
Will laser completely remove my permanent makeup?
Complete removal is not always possible. Some clients want significant removal, while others only need enough fading to make brow correction or a new semi-permanent makeup treatment possible. We will discuss a realistic goal during your consultation.
Can I have new semi-permanent brows after laser removal?
Yes, in some cases new semi-permanent brows can be planned after the old pigment has faded and the skin has fully healed. The timing will depend on how your pigment responds, the condition of the skin and the brow treatment you would like next. Jess will assess the area before recommending a new treatment.
